Tyronius was a Gladiator from the Ludus of Quintus Batiatus who then becomes part of the rebellion.

Appearance

Tyronius is a large muscular man with short brown hair. He wears standard rebel clothing which consists of those of fallen roman soldiers.

Combat Prowess

Tyronius is one of the most prominent Rebels, having survived the entirety of the rebellion and even taking part in Spartacus' Gladiator Games to honor Crixus' death, fighting with Rabanus against two Roman prisoners.

He is skilled with a sword as seen in training bout with Crixus and could also hold his own in hand to hand combat against Crixus, as seen in Blood Brothers.

Gods of the Arena

In Gods of the Arena, when Ulpius begins to attack Oenomaus, he attempts to intervene, grabbing Ulpius and shouting "Doctore! Stop!". Ulpius easily pushes him aside and throws him against a wall. Later in the season during the contests held to determine the new Champion of the House of Batiatus, he is seen being bested by Pollux. He would be present when Batiatus makes his speech to all avaiable gladiators in the ludus during his father's funeral before Oenomaus, now fully embracing his role as Doctore, gives the signal for the gladaitors to begin their training once again to honor the dead.

When Gannicus is granted freedom, Tyronius and the other gladiators bid their brother farewell and see him outside the ludus before returning to their training.

Blood and Sand

He is always a prominent gladiator in the ludus prior to Spartacus' arrival and could be often seen sparring, training, eating, socializing, and fornicating with women. In Kill Them All, he fights Batiatus' men and escaped along with Spartacus and the others.

Vengeance

He is seen in Wrath of the Gods on top of Vesuvius with the other rebels where he would witness the death of Ashur at the hands of Naevia before aiding in making ropes from the mountain's vines to allow Spartacus, Crixus, Agron and Gannicus to scale down the mountain and flank the Romans. He would then be present in the final battle against Glaber.

War of the Damned

He also appears in Enemies of Rome having fought in the battle against Cossinius. He likely took part in killing the surviving Romans in Sinuessa.

In Blood Brothers, he spars with Crixus, and was able to best him, only for Crixus to gain proper footing and best him instead.

When Spartacus and Crixus eventually decide to take separate paths, Tyronius chooses instead to stay with Spartacus and take the path in order to escape the Republic and over the Alps to freedom.

He later takes part in Crixus' funeral games (he is armed with a sica) along with Rabanus and Pollux, killing his opponent. After the games conclude and the 500 rebel prisoners are reunited with the rest of rebels, Tyronius stands among the others as they stand before Crixus' funeral pyre while Spartacus instigates a chant of the names to all who had fallen for them to be free.

He is last seen escaping over the Alps with the other rebels to finally embrace, with comrades, true freedom.

Trivia

  • Tyronius is portrayed by Tyrone Bell who served as Crixus's stunt double in Blood and Sand and personally surveyed the actors' physical training in "Gladiator Camp", particularly over Liam McIntyre and Simon Merrells.
  • Tyronius, PolluxLydon, Leviticus, the Veteran, and Agron are the only gladiators from the House of Batiatus known to survive the Third Servile War in its entirety.
