Character Outline[]

Tychos is one of the gladiators who escaped Batiatus' Ludus with Spartacus. He has dark skin and a well-toned athletic build. Ashur describes him as "one of the lesser men".

Vengeance[]

Tychos, alongside many other gladiators, would escape with Spartacus following his revolt.

Tychos is present, alongside Spartacus, Agron, Sophus, Pollux, Donar and Unknown Gladiator in fighting off many of the Roman mercenaries sent by Seppius to capture them.

The group later takes a villa, south of Capua and use it as a small base of operations. Following the liberation of the slaves, Tychos along with Sophus aid Spartacus in preparing the slaves for becoming part of their band. After Nasir, one of the house slaves who attempted to kill Spartacus, Tychos and Sophus hold him back while the Rebel leaders decide what should be done with him.

Tensions rise between the Rebels as Agron and Crixus come into conflict in regards to the fate of Naevia. After Agron leaves the group to enter Vesuvius, Tychos remains as one of the few gladiators who decide to assault the mines with Spartacus and Crixus.

Tychos accompanies Crixus and Spartacus to the mines to rescue Naevia. While fleeing the ambush there, Tychos is fatally stabbed by a Roman soldier

while the survivors were fleeing throughout a nearby forest. Spartacus attempts to aid Tychos, but the blow Tychos was dealt was too much and he dies as a result. Liscus wishes to have Tychos buried so that his body would not be in Roman hands, but approaching soldiers force the survivors to continue on.

Tychos' body is later found by Marcus and Ashur's group and his body is hung from a tree as a warning to others.

Trivia[]

  • Tychos is one of many gladiators presented in Vengeance, but made no appearance in Blood and Sand.
  • Tychos' name is cried out by one of the rebels during Crixus funeral, along with that of many other fallen members of the rebellion in Episode 9 of War of the Damned.
  • Tychos' origins may lie with the nomadic Tuaregs or the agricultural Haratin people in the Numidian tribal confederacy.
  • The word "Aethiopian" was used by the Greeks and Romans as the catch-all term for black Africans, as opposed to "Libyan", which described the lighter-complexioned Berber or Amazigh populations of North Africa.
  • The name Tychos is Greek in origin, meaning 'hitting the mark'.
