Eptenos was the leader of Spartacus and Sura's village.
Appearance[]
Eptenos has blue eyes. He also sports long white hair and a white beard. In meetings, he wears a simple brown tunic. In battle, he wears a plumed helmet and red cape over his armor.
Personality[]
Eptenos is an old individual who is both wise and holds prominence amongst the others in his village, given his status as their leader.
Combat Prowess[]
He had skills in fighting and appeared to be a veteran soldier, yet was still willing to fight for his people and held great hatred for the Getae.
Blood and Sand[]
Eptenos killed by one of the Getae.
Eptenos tries to negotiate an alliance with the Roman, Legatus Gaius Claudius Glaber along with the other men of his village. While most disagree to join in battle with the Romans, one of the Thracians stands up and ignites an agreement to march to war alongside the Romans if the Thracian's enemies, the Getae, were destroyed.
Eptenos joined his people in the auxiliary in fighting against the Getae. He was killed in a skirmish with the Getae, before Glaber's legions could arrive. Despite his age, he fought well and killed several Getae during the battle.
Trivia[]
- As the leader of Spartacus' home village, Eptenos may have held the title of Komarch, a title of Greek origin which refers to the headman of a village. The Maedi tribe were technically part of the Odrysian Kingdom in Thrace, which had absorbed much of Greek culture over the centuries, as it bordered with Macedonia in the west, and the Greek city-state of Byzantion lay within Odrysian lands along the Hellespont.
- Eptenos is the first character to die in the entire series.
- Eptenos's name is never revealed in the show. However, the shooting script identifies him by that name. [1]
