A bodyguard was an individual charged with protecting the physical safety of another person or group of people. Notable bodyguards include Barca and Batiatus' bodyguard.

Description[]

Individuals charged with bodyguard duties could come from almost any background, but usually had strong bodies and some form of combat and/or defensive training. These individuals could be citizens, freedmen, or slaves, though the latter two were likely the most common.

Duties[]

Acting as a bodyguard could include a wide variety of duties and tasks. The most basic was simply to keep someone's body safe from injury. This could be accomplished in many ways, depending on the circumstances.

Important bodyguards[]

Many characters in the series functioned as bodyguards at one time or another. The most notable is Barca, whose duties as a bodyguard featured prominently in the plot of the first half of Blood and Sand.
